Debra MacIntyre
Debra practises within the firm's securities and regulatory practice group, specializing in investment funds (public and private) and asset management. Her practice focuses on compliance and regulatory issues facing participants in the investment management industry, including investment fund managers, portfolio managers and dealers.
For several years, Debra was Senior Counsel for a Canadian financial institution, with a focus on public and private managed products, including product design for mutual, pooled and hedge funds; wrap accounts, structured products and pension vehicles; and the issues surrounding portfolio management. She regularly advised on compliance, regulatory, trust and governance issues facing investment management participants within the financial institution, including investment fund managers, investment dealers, mutual fund dealers, advisers and other investment fund service providers, including custodians and trust companies.
Debra has several years experience as an investment funds regulator with the Ontario Securities Commission. During her tenure at the OSC, her responsibilities included working on policy projects to update and reform mutual, pooled and segregated fund regulation. She lectured on a number of aspects of securities law and the investment funds industry at Osgoode Hall Law School, Canadian Bar Association (Continuing Legal Education), industry, business and investor education conferences.
Throughout her practice, Debra has served on a number of committees of the OSC and the Investment Funds Institute of Canada, the trade association for the mutual fund industry in Canada, including the Managers Issues Committee, the Regulatory Committee, the Sales Practices Committee and the Sales Communications Committee.
