Rick Angelson
A partner in the Real Estate Group, Rick has been involved in a variety of real estate transactions with an emphasis on work for builders, developers and commercial lenders. He has also had a great deal of exposure to commercial transactions, including joint ventures, apartment building acquisitions, land assemblies, acquisitions of existing shopping centers or land for development in that segment of the market. He was involved in representing the Toronto Raptors Basketball Club in the acquisition and development of the Air Canada Centre. The project consisted of a series of land exchanges and complex agreements amongst the City of Toronto, Canada Post Corporation and Marathon Realty Limited, together with negotiations with Air Canada for the acquisition and construction of its office tower as an integrated part of the stadium development. More recently, Rick has acted for the Ottawa Senators in the acquisition of the Corel Centre.
He has been involved in a number of condominium projects at various times in the Greater Toronto Area acting for both developers and lenders. He has also had exposure to leasing issues, acting for a number of years for a retailer with outlets throughout Ontario, and more complex transactions such as negotiating on behalf of a developer a long-term lease from York University for the construction and development of its arena facility known as the Ice Gardens.
Rick’s lending experience has been with banks, life insurance companies and less institutionalized lenders in the area of construction and take out financing.
