Events
The time you spend at Cassels Brock will be challenging and rewarding, resulting in invaluable learning experiences - and fun. We don't want you to spend all of your time working, so we organize regular events during the year, both social and charitable (or something in between). Take a peek at our event photo gallery to see for yourself.
Social Events
Cassels Brock regularly holds events to allow students and lawyers to relax and get to know one another.
In the past, we've gone rock climbing, taken flying lessons, snowboarded, rowed Lake Ontario, raced around an Indy track, sampled the harvest at a winery, won big at the horse races, and had a laugh or two at our own expense learning cooking basics from French chef Jean Pierre.
Lawyers' Lunches
While our lawyers are undeniably hard-working, they are far from one-dimensional. After time for family and community, it’s hard to find time for personal interests and development. We’ve addressed this by having a regular lawyers’ lunch (students are invited too!) with interesting speakers who satisfy our interests beyond the world of law. Here are a few of our recent lunch guests:
- Rex Murphy (host of CBC Radio's Cross Country Checkup) showcased his political insights;
- Author Marina Nemat (Prisoner of Tehran) talked about what it was like to be arrested, tortured and sentenced to die at the age of 15 years old;
- Liam Lacey, arts critic for the Globe & Mail showed us "How to Become a Film Buff";
- Gayle Gibson, from the Royal Ontario Museum, discussed "Sex and Love in Ancient Egypt";
- Stephen Lewis gave a first-hand account of how the AIDS epidemic is ravaging Africa; and
- Christopher Hume, The Toronto Star’s architecture critic and urban issues columnist, showed us what was new in local architecture, and helped us appreciate some of the city’s architectural gems with a slide presentation.
As many people here are parents, we offer seminars on everything from first aid for kids to tips on parenting.
